A British memorial to the Tax Collector of Tirunelveli, Mr Ashe, who was assassinated in 1907 when his train stopped at the Maniyachi station, an route to Madras. He was shot at point-blank range by the Nationalist Vanchinathan Iyer, who then killed himself. The British government built a memorial for him at Tuticorin in 1913 by the philanthropist Cruz Fernandex. No Statue.
