hotel staff especially manager suraj were quite helpful.he arranged all our taxis including nathula pass by requesting him through phone calls. Mr Davo, served everything to us very nicely. they provided best food i had during my sikkim trip. However, there is no other hotel nearby so you dont have any other option except eating in the hotel itself in the evening. Driver Ashish was the best driver we got among all. if you are north indian, you must try alloo paratha there. if you love shopping in the evening leisure time, you would not like this hotel because it is quite far from gangtok, in a peaceful area. Gangtok view from the hotel in the night was beautiful.

First of all Bamboo retreat is for those who seeking solitude from crowded place and noisy atmoshphere. It is not in Gangtok and set on rumtek road which is 35 mins away by car from Main Gangtok. It is a boutique hotel which room base on Tibetean culture and colors. You will find every room is seperated from other. It is hidden pearl inside the green mountain, you will have pleasant smile on your face once you see colorful and traditionally sikkim paintings on their wall. Suraj Basnet(Manager) will be one who welcomes you and allows to get settle in comfort. He is very informative about the place and very helpful in understanding your needs. Bydway he is very good listener which I personally Liked it. He gave us the best room of this hotel which lies on the top of the hotel like cherry on cake. Nathula is name of our room where we stayed. Room ambience is perfect in color, light, bean bag, bed and everything is there for your comfort. Food is another USP of this hotel and kitchen staff is very experineced as they add soothing and everlasting taste to it. I recommend to taste Thukpa as it will snatch your all tiredness which we used to do at the end of the day. Dev is a guy who serve the food to our room and at the restaurent. He has very goood bass in his voice and face very similar to dev anand. I enjoyed my time there and they are best in gangtok.

For those who are planning to travel to Switzerland this summer , please cancel your tickets and board your plane to Bagdogra instead . A 2-day stay in this amazing property set amongst dense forests , 25 kms away from Gangtok, East Sikkim [ 5 hours' drive from Bagdogra airport ] , will turn out to be a great memorable experience of your life time . The owner Helen Kampf - a Swiss resident - seems to have put in a great deal of effort in developing this property - a perfect fusion of renowned Swiss hospitality and Indian religion , especially Buddhism . The Hotel is very nicely furnished and with free wifi facilities you remain connected to your friends and relatives all the time . You can be assured of excellent services from the very helpful Property Manager, Suraj Basnet and his dedicated 3-member staff who pull out all stops to make sure that you enjoy and relish every moment of your stay . Do not forget to visit the Rumtek Monastery in close vicinity after you have checked out of the Hotel. This is one of the finest and the biggest Monastries in this part of the world , complete with a Golden Stupa .

I give full marks to Hotel Bamboo Retreat , hoping to return to Sikkim in the near future simply to stay in the nature amidst peace and transquility .

Location is not ideal, rooms are quite old style and not clean, lacked a phone in the rooms, food options are not so great and quite complicated to understand what is in the offer as most of the dishes need to be ordered 24hrs in advance. Host was quite friendly and have is good discount.

An Eco-friendly boutique hotel, located in the midst of greenery, in the lap of mountains with a beautiful organic farmland outside. A Tibetan inspired architecture with wonderful Tibetan decor and handicrafts inside, will win your heart.
We were greeted by Mr. Suraj (Manager), we reached in the evening around 4 pm. He sat with us made us comfortable, we had coffee and went to our room..oh sorry….Emerald Apartment….!! We loved our apartment and the hotel interior, after gazing at the mesmerizing view from our apartment and artifacts there, we were being called for Herbal bath. We headed to Herbal bathroom where the tub was full of enriched water with an infusion of fresh herbs, leaves and flowers. The beautiful flowers, candle light and aroma made the ambiance so romantic, we enjoyed sipping our herbal tea and bath together. The bath was so refreshing and regenerating that we forgot we were so tired after a long travel. After visiting the beautiful property, North- Indian dinner was waiting for us. We don’t even remember when we had eaten such sumptuous food. The food was delicious and mouth-watering. A special thanks to chef (Ramu) who cooked such lip smacking food for us.
The eco freindly enviroment, organic farming and usage fresh herbs made the food highlight of this place. The hotel has a restaurant and bar where they offer an expansive multi-cuisine buffet and drinks. They serve ethnic cuisine like Sikkimism Lepcha, Bhutia, Nepali and North Indian. Chinese can also be served on special request.
But if you do have some time at hand we’d recommend sampling the pizzas there which is made in the traditional way with fresh organic herbs and takes around 3 hrs to bake.

MEDITATION HALL, COMMON SPACE AND LIBRARY
The highlight of a stay at this place is its eco-friendly atmosphere and Meditation Hall where they arrange Mediation and yoga classes and introduction to Buddhism on special request, one can also sit there, pray or meditate. They also have common space and a small library. The hotel’s walls are adorned with mandala paintings and Tibetan artefacts. I found its corridors thoroughly appealing and couldn’t shake off the feeling of being in a Tibetan ambiance. Ravi also spent hours poring over the Tibetan artefacts, handicrafts and books. We would strongly recommend checking them out if you have a keen interest in knowing about Tibetan culture and Buddhism.
Bamboo Retreat offers a range of themed rooms and suites to suit an adroit traveler. There is also an apartment called Emerald apartment for a family or long-term guests. We stayed in the Emerald apartment. The apartment has one big hall with living and dining area, a kitchen, three rooms have private balconies with lush green mountain view and the best part is the corner of apartment with a swing where you can sip your coffee and enjoy gazing at mesmerizing nature. Rooms are well-equipped with comfortable double beds, luxurious toiletries, Jacuzzis, wifi and cupboards. If you cherish your privacy and dislike busy breakfast buffets, then there’s a good news for you, it can be arranged in your balcony or garden. This place is ideal for travelers who look forward for peace of mind and want to enjoy the charm of nature.

I booked two rooms. One of the rooms was small but the suite room was really good and huge. The hospitality was simply amazing. There is a roadside parking available. This resort is far from the main city, around 20 kms. It is pretty close to the Rumtek monastery. The views from the room were amazing. I felt safe there with my family. The owner was very humble.
