It is a very historic place where our freedom fighter Netaji subhash Chandra Bose was kept. It is a very beautiful place to visit and go close to nature.

Buxa Fort is a historical place and it is part of the Buxa Tiger Reserve where Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was imprisoned. It was a British detention camp. First you can drive to Zero Point. Trekking starts after zero point. During trekking, various beautiful natural beauties including rivers and waterfalls captivate the mind. After trekking for about 2 km, you can reach Buxa Fort.

Buxa Fort is a must visit place. When we went there, it was in reconstruction, so there were no tickets to enter. The whole area was so damn beautiful and relaxing. There is football ground. I don't know the exact date but they organize a football competition in a particular time period in that ground.

Awesome place full of scenic beauty, beautiful hills and the sound of rivers connect the soul with the nature. The fort is still under renovations. The less travel ways are little bit scary, specially in rainy season otherwise very attractive place for adventures.

Trekking to Buxa Fort with my 8 year old twin daughters was a great experience. Initially we were scared whether we can reach...but as we started we got more and more excited and continued.

Our Guide Suraj was a calm person who pitched in whenever we thought of giving up.

You need to travel 2.5 km by local car and book a Compulsory guide for 900 rs.

The fort is ok and under renovation but the trekking experience is worth the price.

Must try

The historic Buxa Fort is located at an altitude of 2600 feet and is a part of the Buxa Tiger Reserve. Buxa Fort Trek is one of the most popular treks in the Dooars region. It is an easy trek and takes about 2 hours to reach the Buxa Fort from the base of the hill at Santalabari. Usually, tourists and travellers visiting Buxa Tiger Reserve and Jayanti also trek up to the Buxa Fort and a few all the way up to Lepchakha. Infact, there are a few trek routes from the Buxa Fort itself going to Lepchakha, Rover’s Point and Rupam Valley.

Buxa fort was a detention camp of the British. It was captured by them from the Bhutan king.
Nowadays the condition of the fort is very bad, almost ruined.
To visit this historical place, you have to enter the core area of Buxa Tiger Reserve Forest. The entry gate is at Rajabhatkhawa. Ticket price is Rs. 120/- per head for the Indians. Then you have to proceed through dense forest and reach Santalabari. Stopping can be dangerous in the forest. Rest your vehicle and take local vehicle upto Zero point. A local guide will be helpful for the first timer. And then your trekking will start for another 2 km through the cart. You may take rest on the way. There are shops in the villages. Aged persons can face difficulties to trek. On the way from the viewpoint, you can see the Jayanti river, Bala river passing through the forest. Arriving at the fort, you can realise how hard it was to escape for the prisoners at that time as such a prison was set up there.
Alipurduar is 14 km away from Rajabhatkhawa and from then Santalabari is almost 16 km.
Remember, starting at an early morning will be a good choice.
Go and enjoy the trip ☺️
