The 19th century panch ratna Lakshmi Janardhan Temple has three arches with the central arch depicting a war scene between Ram and Ravan while the two remaining arches depict the former's coronation ceremony and the latter's meeting with his generals. The twin temples made in the rekha-deul style dedicated to Lord Shiva with terracotta panels are also worth a visit.
The rajbari is also famous for its Durga Puja celebrations that have been consistently happening since over 250 years?! Yes. It was started by Srinivas himself and the tradition is followed even today, albeit without the old pomp and show. The rajbari is decorated with lights. Several local artistes perform here as well. The immersion also sees a huge gathering each year. You can still see a Palki (palanquin) from those days preserved at the entrance.
Durga Puja is still celebrated here.
No entry fee was charged. There was no guide available who could narrate the history of the place.
We visited two distinct sections - one is Natmandir and another is a set of of 4 temples adjacent to the earlier section. We also saw the Durga idol in making here; however, access is restricted and visitors cannot go near to have a closer look.
The temples have few fine pieces of terracotta work on their walls. Overall, a enjoyable 30 minute trip to this place.
Surul, located a few kilometres away from Bolpur station, houses the Sarkar Rajbari built in the 1750s. The rajbari still remains in a terrific condition despite being almost three centuries old! It was built by this businessman named Srinivas Sarkar, who apparently made a lot of money by selling sails for ships that sailed from the Saheb Ghat port in Illambazar. It also boasts of several dilapidated but unique temples with a lot of intricate terracotta carvings.

Surul Rajbari also popularly called the Surul Sarkarbari in Bolpur Santiniketan.
The mansion is a two storied pillared structure. The facade has a beautiful veranda above the main entrance. There is an arch gate at the entrance. The magnificent building is white in colour and some portions are highlighted with orange and golden. Doors and window are painted with green colour.
The entrance leads to open to sky thakur-dalan or courtyard.
At the center of the courtyard, there is Nat-Mandir. The courtyard is very large and is surrounded by verandas.
Surul Rajbari is a must visit spot in Shantiniketan.
I enjoyed that and strongly recommend you to visit this Surul Rajbari in your Santiniketan trip.
Don't expect too much from this place. Beautiful well maintained place.
Average spending time is 30 min if you are a photography person.
Overall a nice place to visit in shantiniketan.
