Bangarh is an ancient archaeological site situated in Gangarampur town. the place now consists of few brick structures spread around large area. the place should be properly maintained and preserved as it is a open space. local peoples use to cultivate inside the site which should be stopped. the bricks can easily be stolen from the structures as there no one to look after this historical spot.

This place is at Gangarampur Sub division. Historical importance due to archeological remaining are present of the King Ban. Ancient names of KOTIBARSHA and DEBIKOT is related to this place. Presently almost all of the excavated stuffs were shifted to the District Museum, Balurghat for preservation.

Great Place to visit as a historical Place. If You are planning to go somewhere related to history then you can visit it.

Bangarh was the ancient city that served as the administrative centre of Kotivarsha Vishaya (territorial division), which was part of the larger administrative unit of Pundravardhana Bhukti, which had Mahasthangarh as its capital[1] during the Chandra, Varman, and Sena periods.
Following the defeat of the Senas by the Muslims led by Bakhtiar Khilji, Devkot was established as their capital, where Bakhtiar died.

Ruins of an ancient Palace. Some discrete structure, with bricks, not at all well preserved. Any one can take out bricks and made this historical place a waste. Otherwise, a very nice and large open space with ruins. Must visit.
