This fort was built in the year 939 by Krishna Dev Rai. Thereafter it was occupied by Hasan Gangu Bahamas in 1284. Mughal samrat Shah jahan came in 1046. Thereafter Aurangzeb occupied it and managed this fort through his castellan. After that Nizam lost it to Peshwa in a war in Feb 1760 and agreed to retain control by paying 60 lakh jagir. Despite its historical significance this fort is ignored by archaeological survey of India and lacks maintenance.

The fort is in pretty good condition. A lot can be learnt about what could have been the lifestyle and the culture few centuries back. However proper maintenance is the need of the hour. The walls have been ruined by scribblers. There resides a temple within the fort which catches more visitors on festivals and events. A spectacular site for historic monument.

This is very huge fort located at Udagir, there is one care taker called as Maharaj who is doing worship of Shiv temple inside fort premises, he has key of main door of fort, inside fort there are lots of other Mahals, Dargah and Namaj place. Most of the inside structures are collapsed & some about to collapse. Morning 11 to evening 5 can visit this fort. Shiv Temple area is too good and there are some water springs near temple, also there is also Udagir Maharaj Samadhi in side premise. This fort still maintained & take care by local authorities. Do visit this fort.

Entrance of the historical fort is very grand with security towers on both the sides and narrow entrance supported by underground moat. There are several ruins of palaces with islamic arches, impressive small mosques, simple and beautiful pillared halls, several fountains, excellent bird views of the complete fort from the flag hoisting tower is worth the visit. There's some repair work going on and they should develop the gardens after cleaning the forest grass which makes it nice place to relax and feel the architecture.
