Ernakulam Public Library

Has a lot of books, but finding a particular title is not easy. Staff behaviour is not commendable - still has the 'sarkari babu' attitude.
The good thing is that they have a mini theatre of the sort where movies are screened.

Good collection of booKs, a security counter located on 2nd floor ,der, after checking only you can get into the library that is located on the next floor. Sad part is you have to climb all the stairs to reach here, the so called lift is there but I have never seen as being used.

Its not the biggest library, but it has all collections of novels, kids books, magazines, reference materials etc.. The membership and monthly charges are very cheap when compared to the services. The book borrowing and returning process is done using a kiosk and your library card. So it's easy and fast. Also all the books are registered in their website and the availability is indicated along with the section name etc. So its easy to find the books. They also have an online booking the books and renewal service for books that you have already rented which makes things super easy.

I strongly recommend to have a membership here. 360/- per quarter.
You can take 4 books. ( lesser subscription choice also available)

Well maintained library with good collection of books. There are 4 types of membership, Life member being the top which costs 7100. (can borrow 4 books at a time). There is no monthly or annually subscription charges for lifetime membership. C class is the basic membership which costs Rs.530 (400 is security deposit) and have monthly subscription of Rs.30. Book borrowing and return is automated process and is hassle free. Renewal of borrowed books can be done online & availability of books can be checked in their website. Members can also reserve books online.

Don’t go by their website. It says oldest (which it might be) but it’s NOT the biggest(try visiting tvm public library). The building has 3-4 floors in total. One floor for reference section, another floor for lending books, I think another floor is for seminar hall and likes.
CONS:
1. They have very less book collection and to be frank very poor collection of books. Most of the ones are already in circulation.
2. Biggest issue is their member pricing structure. They more than 10 times or even more that what TVM Public library charges
3. Very less Parking space, that too paid parking (first one hr is free, I heard)
4. It’s surrounded by busy roads with very less lane width, if you are going by a 4 wheeler, you will have a tough time
Worst of all, there is no better library in ernakulam, so I ended up taking the membership never the less.

Update after 4 months: I closed the membership, citing struggle to reach the place, Parking issues, most good titles in circulation etc. Took membership at EMS library Kakkanad, I’d suggest to give it a try.

Slow processing cause of few staff. Book variety is cool although I don't read books.Eait why did I go here again🤔

Very well maintained library. At the time of posting this review, the membership fee costs around 630 out of which 400 is refundable (security deposit). They have a kiosk for the easy borrow and return of books. Only feedback would be is that it is a little hot in the library and most tables to sit at are not located under ceiling fans.
