There is no adverse comment on my experience today. But the library, though a prestige one in Kerala, seems to have taken a back bench in actual expansion/growth. Am not an authority to comment on the employee issues going on for a pretty long time. Being a member for the past 3 decades, I have decided to continue the same for some more time.

A hundred and thirty years back, in 1873, to be precise, A. Sankarayya, the famous Diwan of Cochin convened a meeting of a handful of 21 youths and discussed how to help the reading public of Thrissur.

Books and a few periodicals were what is today called the print media but, they were much beyond the reach of even the elite of the society. The meeting took a far reaching decision to start a reading room in the small town, housing in a public building where the St. Mary's college library stands today. History tells us that it turned out to be a honeycomb for the headers - who were of course very few in numbers. The visitors of the Reading Room were limited to a few journals and books of the old type and it is continued to serve the people for six and half decades in the same premises, growing gradually and feeling strongly the inconveniences of an old building.

Good collections and good assistance by the staffs over there ❤️.. Books are always 100% Love and Life!!! Feel to walk around one of the old and best libraries is indeed a pleasure!

Also just love the good old smell of the library which takes us through the memories of the good old school and college days wherein we used to read only sportstar, tinkle, hardy boys..And little more naughty things done in between.. Sweet memories of childhood!

Do visit this place and revisit again 👍..

One of the largest libraries in Thrissur. Attached with town hall. Situated in heart of the city. Townhall and library is the iconic place in the Thrissur. Also having cultural activities here many times. Have a little park. But need to more maintenance. Have a lot of parking place. Have many nearby attractions here. #thrissur #iconic #library

Thrissur Public Library
Started by the famous Diwan "Sankara Iyer".
I've been a regular visitor since 2005, started my journey with books from the kids section here and now an avid reader.
The whole plush green surrounding of the library makes readers want to visit often, truly serenic and historical in its nature.
Non-members could read newspapers of all variety in the ground floor and members occupy the first floor and the reference hall.
Large collection of Fiction (both English, malayalam and Hindi) Non- fiction and academic collections are limited but available.
Children would love the kids section and it'll help generate a healthy reading habit early on.
Thrissurians must make use of this grand facility available to us.

Happy reading
Return the books on time.
Cheers :)

Only recently did I become a member of the library, one of the many hidden gems of thrissur, sadly very few finds this hidden treasure trove of knowledge. Although the whole place is long due a renovation, the variety of books still can’t be matched.
