We use this building name as our nearest landmark. It's also a very historical monument. Many important and honorable people visits this place regularly. Much of the collection are in bengali but also books in other languages are available. The atmosphere inside is very disciplinary and very comfortable for book lovers. Books are also given on loan for reading at home to the registered members. People of every age can be seen reading books here, from youth to old. Important to mention that many teachers and professors are seen here regularly making notes for their teaching reference.

The unique collection of immensely valuable rare books, magazines, manuscripts, museum items etc. in this unparalleled organisation and its invaluable publications (around 400 right now) deserve claim for a higher status in commensurate with that of an institute of national importance. In fact, a recommendation for elevating the current status of Bangiya Sahitya Parisad was made for awarding ‘A’ category by the 4th pay Commission (Part II), Government of West Bengal more than a decade ago. By this time, the functions of this organisation has increased manifold due to opening of new sections. Therefore, it is urged that Bangiya Sahitya Parisad may be declared as a library with an ‘extra-ordinary status’ befitting an institution of national importance.
