Taj Bekal Resort & Spa, Kerala

A rather disappointing experience overall. The property is beautiful, but the faulty services make it a disappointing experience. A property of this range with such absurd prices should provide the guests with the highest possible level of services. From the very beginning, the check out was a disorganized experience where I was asked to provide all my data, when everything was already provided during the booking process. The room provided was in the far end of the property, where I was basically alone as there were no other guests. The room upon arrival had no amenities, I had to ask for all amenities to be provided, as there were no soaps, bathtub salts, and only one set of towels. I arrived at midnight, I only wanted some peace, a nice bath, a beer and some food. What did I find? Nothing in the fridge to eat or drink, only 6 bottles of water, restaurant services not available and the claim from the front desk that after 10 pm, alcohol sales are not allowed. How is it possible that a 5-star property, in India, doesn’t have a minibar with one bottle of beer? I understand the laws of a backward state could prevent the property from selling alcohol immediately, but the property could have a well provided minibar for the guests. I ordered a sandwich, which arrived at almost 1:30 am, semi cold. The stay didn’t get better after that. The rain made the electricity stop several times, which was not a long lasting issue in the room fortunately, but it was a permanent issue outside. As I said, I was put in a room far away from everything at the end of the property and there were no lights in the evening. I had to use my phone to light my path, because simply no one offered a torch, let alone a ride. Pricing is outrageous compared to the services and the quality of the rooms themselves. The flushing button panel in the room was broken. It would come off every time one button was pushed. Did facilities check it? Clearly not. When the bill arrived, it was truly a shock considering the low level of quality the services and the rooms are for such a price. Disappointed at Taj and at this property. Definitely not value for money

My stay was amazing. The location of this property was one of the best I've ever been to You have access to the backwaters and the sea from this place. As usual, the hospitality of Taj was splendid but I'd like to mention 'Arun". He works at the restaurant and made our stay memorable. There were a lot of activities to do here including free indoor games and a PS5.

We had a nice stay recently.
Stayed with family. Nice location, decent rooms and friendly staff are the highlights.

However, I would rate low on ‘value for money’ aspect. I’m comparing to other Taj hotels where I stayed before.

Awesome place with scenic beauty. It has its own backwater. Moonlight rafting is a must for a romantic experience. Staffs are friendly. Only mood spoiler is weather which is hot and humid all the times and therefore can’t do any activity during afternoon

I took my parents here for two nights and we absolutely fell in love with the property! The property is so serene and beautiful. The staff is kind and humble and a special call out to Jason who helped me and my family during our stay here.

The place is absolutely blissful and the Taj Hospitality needs no introduction. A large property spread midst the woods and the backwaters just touching the clean beach. Has something for everyone. What a lovely vacation I had. The room the food the service the spa the every little things I asked for was done with a lot of care and attention. Loved it!!!

Great experience but food is really below average considering their investments on the elegance in the property. The service is world class though. The pool villa is certainly a worthy stay.

Property is very good and embraces nature. Loved the exteriors of the property. Beach was super clean but not allowed to swim. Backwaters and trees were beautiful. Room were old and needs upgrades specifically bathrooms. There is only one dining area and that too is not very well maintained. Staff is very good but not very well trained like other Taj properties. Food was awesome. We tried local Kerala food too.
