The District Museum at Jiaganj ( Baluchar is the original ancestral name of Jiaganj. The name was changed to Jiaganj only after the Nawabs came in power of Murshidabad) is the brainchild of Late Rai Bahadur Surendra Narayan Singha of Jiaganj, who had contributed everything contained therein. The site of the Museum and the invaluable sculptures and others antiquities are entirely his contributions and collections. The District Museum is located at Nehalia,Jiaganj- about 2km away from Jiaganj Railway Station. on Sealdah-Lalgola route.
Nehalia is renowned for its Historical Museum, Roybahadur's Palace ,"Haat" (A local fair arranged on every Wednesday).

This is Nehaliya Palace, house of Late Sir Raibahadur Surendarnarayan Singh Nehaliya. The adjacent museum stands on the land donated by him and shows many rare historical artifacts of his possession from olden days, all from this district.
