The Mahal was used as the living place of Rani Laxmibhai after her marriage. Located at the walkable distance from the fort. It has a big garden and a hexogonal Well. The two storied building has the courtyard and the Rani's living place in the first floor. One can imagine and feel how the royal family lived here in those days. Ground floor used as exhibition of Stone sculptures of various periods.

The two storey palace was built in the 18th Century by a subedar of the ruling family and was used later in 19th Century , by Rani Lakshmi Bai, as one of her residences. The structure is built around an open courtyard that allows a lot of light and ventilation. Beautiful wall paintings that once adorned the inner walls are in bad shape now ; very sad to see grafitti scribbled on them by some irresponsible visitors. . The Archeological Department has converted the ground floor into a museum , housing rare and beautiful sculptures salvaged from many ruins around this region.

Leave apart the condition of the Rani Mahal today, the only attraction here for me was the well painted room on the first floor. It is painted in natural red colors and the minute floral designs, the peacocks, ducks and birds on the wall and ceiling tell us the high level of skills and heart that must have been put by the artists while painting this room. Rest of the palace is museum of ancient sculptures (most of them are defaced). The defaced sculptures also have a pattern in them. The face is defaced and the body is intact.

Entry via scan code/bar code and online payment method. I think that would deter a lot of people who aren't so technically sound. The place is nice, clean, personally i found this to be the best out of all the places i visited so far!

Historically very important place. Architecturally not very enthralling but the wall paintings in the gallery of the 1st floor are splendid. Ground floor is being used as Exhibit area of the stone carved motifs and Sculptures from nearby archaeological sites. Very close from Jhansi Fort. Parking and Public Utilities available

The Rani Mahal (meaning "the queen's palace") is a royal palace in the city of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India. The palace was built by Raghu Nath-II of the Newalkar family (1769-96), subedar of Jhansi. This palace later formed one of the residences for Rani Lakshmibai (1853-58).
Architecturally, it is a flat-roofed, two-storeyed building having a quadrangular courtyard with a small well and one fountain on opposite sides. The palace consists of six halls and parallel corridors with multi-foiled arches and a number of small rooms. The Darbar Hall, approached by a flight of steps, is beautifully decorated with paintings in bright colours exhibiting various floral, faunal and geometrical motifs. The arches are embellished with peacock and rosette patterns. A major part of it was damaged by British bombardment during the siege of Jhansi in 1858. The ground floor of the palace houses stone sculptures collected from Madanpur, Barua Sagar, Dudhai and Chandpur dating from the Gupta to Medieval periods (9th to 12th centuries).

Honestly speaking, there is nothing great to see so not worth visiting at all. This is the place where Rani Laxmi bai used to stay but now it is nothing less than the ruins of the building.
The building is very badly maintained and it needs restoration very badly.
