The Yamunotri dham temple is located near bandar punchh parvat of Garhwal himalayas in Uttarkashi district. It is about 125 km from uttarkashi town. To reach the temple you have to do a 6-7 km trek. The location of the temple is just impeccable. It is one of the chhota char dham of uttarakhand. You can see the beautiful valley from the deck of the temple.
There is a hot water pool in the temple. Many People first bathes in the kund then do the darshan. There is another hot water kund named surya kund in which rice and potatoes been cooked and served as prasad to the devotees.
The Roads are very good but of a single lane and quite narrow due to which traffic jams take place in between.

◆ First you have to reach Janki chatti through Barkot which is 45 km from it.
◆ Here you can get rooms to stay at decent price.
◆ Next day you have to start your trekking early morning before 8 am. Because the path is very narrow and it get very crowded afterwards.
◆ You can go by your own which could take more than 4 hours or you can take a Pony, a palki or a back carriage which could take 2-4 hours to reach the temple.
◆ There are many devotees visit the temple but you can easily get the darshan.

Note: 1. The driver has to be very skilled to drive on a single lane road with heavy traffic on it.
2. Do not rely on railing much as it's loosely attached.
3. If you go by a Pony remember to sit firmly and change your postures while climbing or getting down, it will help the ride. Also mind your head while ridding otherwise overhanging cliffs may hit you.
4. The weather changes drastically, so always keep raincoat/umbrella with you.
5. You can easily take pictures of Goddess Yamuna.

The Yamunotri Dham temple is located about 10,800 ft above sea level (second highest in char dham). It was first built by Maharani Guleria of jaipur in 19th century. The Yamunotri dham is dedicated to godess Yamuna , daughter of Surya and twin sister of Yam. She's also sister of Shani and consort of Lord krishna. It is said that for sage Asit muni's devotion maa ganga emerged here in form yamuna river.
There is actual source of the river is behind it the Kalind glacier mountain for which yamuna is also called Kalindi.

The walk to the yamunotri temple comes with some of the most magnificent views. But one must be aware of the steep 5km climb with undependable weather conditions.

It takes 2.5 hours from barkot to Yamunotri, it takes around 4 hours to cover 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) of distance by walk from Janki Chatti to surya kund mandir. the steps are too steep and bit difficult to climb; the plenty of horses or palanquins are available for rent with the range of 2500 to 10000 Rs. you will get plenty of chances to view number of waterfalls. It is recommended to take bath in hot water spring . The temple management have to do lots of work in terms of cleanliness.

One of the toughest trek actually. You have to walk 6 km only but the last 2 km is toughest. The road is too much inclined. And the other reason is mostly people go to the temple, stay there for 1 hour and then come back in janki chatti. They cover almost 13 km of this inclined path in 7 hours. And the other problem is horses, pittu and palki. Those things disturb u very much in walking. But the view is awesome. It actually gives u the energy. All over it's a great experience.

NOTE - The pictures attached are not of the Yamunotri maa temple, but they are of the 5-6 KM trek you've to take to visit the temple.

To visit the Yamunotri Mata Temple you can trek either from Janki-Chatti (6kms) or from the Hanuman Chatti Town which is around 13 Kms.

You can take the hotels to keep your stuffs & belongings just where the trek starts. It's not a very difficult trek, (From janki chatti ) but can take in between 3-4 hours to visit the temple, make sure not to take any "Vaikalpik rasta" cause it leads to nowhere. Just follow the trail on which you started.

Main tips -
1. Make sure to carry thermals, raincoat and warm clothes as the weather is quite unpredictable.
2. Carry snow-proof and water-proof non-slippery shoes.
3. If you are planning to hike, make sure to take the stick for support. (Stick costs Rs. 40, after you return it you will get Rs. 20 back)
4. Make sure to exercise everyday for atleast 20-30 days before planning the trip, so that body is adjusted to some hectic and strenuous activity.
5. Last but not the least - eat well and take necessary breaks during the hike.. and ENJOY!

Information -

Yamunotri temple is the Temple dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. It is the source of River Yamuna. 🙏🏻
This is the first temple of the chota CharDham yatra ( Uttarakhand CharDham).

The hike/trek to reach the temple is around 6 kms. People can walk upto the temple or use horse/pittu or doli service if walking is not possible.

The route is very scenic and beautiful with the river flowing from one side and mountain on the other side. 😍❤️

We were so lucky to visit Yamunotri temple because when we are coming back from temple to jankichatii we see police suspend the yatra (trek) due to weather alert. This pic was taken on 17 Oct 2021. Plan your trip before Nov month beacuse weather may change very fast and temple gate also get close on diwali every year.
