Am I glad to see this! 30 years ago as a small kid living nearby this place was an abandoned structure not cared for . Only a few brave hearted kids would enter and explore the ruins .
Incidentally the opposite building used to house geological survey of India offices and there were a few ramshackle rooms facing the temple which I suspect housed the original nandi. Old timers said the whole place was once a burning ghat outside of old city and both the adi basavanna and Chennakesava temple in Shankar mutt road were inside it and were both part of a single temple
