My name is Alexander Philip. I am a returning NRI.
I previously held a bank account with federal bank at the kalamassery branch for an educational loan purpose. I returned from Australia in February 2021.
I wanted to open a savings bank account in federal bank kanjikuzhy as I reside in kottayam now.
Opening a bank account in federal bank and getting the cheque book, atm card and activating the atm card has become a very tiresome process. How can such a reputed bank like federal bank make this process so tiresome that I don’t even want an account with federal bank anymore.
I applied for a savings bank account on 3rd week of March and received email confirmation that my account was opened on 6th March 2021. Account no. 13760100108988. I was advised by the Asst. Manager to come to the branch after 5-6 days after receiving the email from federal bank to collect my cheque book and atm card. I went to the bank after 3 weeks and got my cheque book and passbook but no ATM card. I was asked to come back after 3 more day which I did and got my ATM card.
I tried activating my ATM card today morning as per the letter provided with the debit card using soft pin option via IVR. This failed because the phone number registered is an old phone number that I had used to setup a bank account at kalamassery branch.
On account of the wrong and old phone number recorded by federal bank in the system against my new bank account application, I now have to go to the branch again to rectify this. It is sad to see that even with Covid creating so much havoc in the country, federal bank makes a customer come to the branch 4 times to open a savings bank account and activate an ATM card. What pathetic service is this ?
How irresponsible it is of the bank to advise customers to approach the branch for every small issue that could be resolved easily via phone or email.
I was advised by the customer care operator Ms. Anumol KP that the only option to activate my ATM card was to go back to the branch or login into fed net which I can’t activate without activating the debit card, which means my only option to resolve this small issue of changing my registered phone number recorded incorrectly by the bank is by approaching the bank again directly.
I am very disappointed with the service provided by federal bank. Very shameful for a bank of your stature to make a customer come back 4 times to the branch to open and activate a simple savings bank account.
