This reserve has great potential to become one of the top wildlife sanctuary only if authorities put in more work to grow both in terms of conservative and promotes the park in the correct way.
Situated along the backwaters created by the tansa dam, this is a very dense forest and has a rich variety of flora and fauna.
It's particularly famous for it's bird life and very popular amongst the local photographers. The close proximity to the lake also brings in a lot of picnic goers, which has startes showing it's effects on the banks.
Trash (specially plastic plates and other items) left behind by irresponsible people are everywhere ruining the beauty of this place at an alarming rate.
The place also lacks any proper restaurant or place to relax for people who wish to spend some time in the nature. Ideal for ecotourism, authorities should consider this as an option which will not only help in promotion but also bring necessary funds which is needed for conversation.
I am hopeful that in yrs to come this place will also grow and become a top place for seeing wildlife and an conservative success story for people associated with it.
It gets almost dried up in summer so one can't stay in forest after 11am as it's heating up so much des days.
Internal roads are well maintained because BMC does regular maintenance of water pipelines to support Mumbai water consumption.
Forest department has Forest guest house to stay.
2. Approx 100 km from Dadar, Mumbai.
3. Take the Ahemdabad Mumbai higway and turn right at Manor junction
4. Its a prohibited area due to Tansa being water resource lake for Mumbai district
5. So photography, video and drone are prohibited
6. Previously they allowed to go to the banks of the catchment lake, but now barricades have been put up, so you van view the lake from a 50 metres distance
7. Road is good, few potholes which one can manage
8. Both 2 and 4 wheeler are allowed
9. Sometimes entry is also prohibited inside Tansa forest
