There are two ways to go for a trip- be a tourist who revels in the portable bubble of conditioning. No matter where we are, we are always within the safety confines of your bubble. We might enjoy the trip definitely, but we will remain to be ourselves and the trip will just remain that.
On the contrary, if we choose to go as a traveller, it isn’t just about the trip, it’s more about rediscovering ourselves while being part of everything that we meet on the way. At the end of it, we come back not just rejuvenated but a bit more wizened and a bit broader minded. It will not just be a trip but an experience that is truly transformative.
Anyone can give us the tourist experience. Even a normal Uber or Ola can take us to different places, but if we choose to be travellers, there aren’t many who are qualified and passionate to take us on such an experiential voyage. That’s exactly where Chalohoppo comes in.
For my first ever visit to the North East of India, I opted to go with them. I did go through a lot of positive reviews, but the sceptic in me wasn’t ready to expect the best. And boy, I was in for a pleasant surprise. The 7-day trip to Meghalaya was indeed a life changing experience for me. While the meticulous planning and the organizational skills indeed stand out, I would like to highlight the warm relationship they build with the guests. A special word of mention for our lead guide Nick (Nitish Doley) who was our unofficial DJ, singer, storyteller, stand up comedian- everything rolled into one. I am still hungover by the Chalohoppo experience. Even now I can vividly recollect the treks, hikes, swimming, the crystal-clear water, camp fire, jamming sessions reliving some classic songs, storytelling, dance and many more. As to the basics and amenities, you get the best of what is available.
The team has the right kind of local contacts to get us through some real offbeat experiences. It wasn’t offbeat all the way though, it was just the right mix of experiential offbeat treks and chill out time at more commercialized spots. I had my solo experience as well as group fun. Whether you prefer to travel alone or with family or friends, Chalohoppo is your best bet for North East.
Game for North East? Chalo let’s hop on Chalohoppo
Chalo Hoppo is a company with values. They are conscious that the purpose of travel should be good for you, the places and people that you visit.
Nick, our trip lead made our days truly mesmerizing. Apart from leading a group really well, he really is a fantastic human being - always going over and above for us. Oh, and he's super fun to be around - from playing his guitar, dancing on Bollywood songs, to random singing sessions while on hikes - Nick will truly make you feel in love with life. His passion for travelling and love for meeting new people just rubs off on you! <3
Best part is, Nick (and Chalo Hoppo Team) instead of taking the usual charted routes - is able to find places that are truly offbeat (you won't find them even on Google Maps) and craft an experience that is so so beautiful, you'd be stunned. You'd get to experience the 'real Northeast'.
Before my Meghalaya trip with Chalo Hoppo, I had never travelled solo, never travelled out of my comfort zone and after this beautiful experience, I thank myself every single day!
For those wondering if NE is worth it - I'd say take that leap of faith with Chalo Hoppo. Special thanks to Nick for being the biggest cheerleader for me, can't wait to come back again :) <3
Overall a fantabulous experience and will definitely recommend everyone to use Chalo Hoppo. Kudos to John, Pritika and Arnamtira for all the ground work and research that goes into each trip.
From the initial planning and enquiry phase where Pritika and Arnamitra helped us with all our queries and concerns to the actual trip with our travel guide and now friend Nick.
The itinerary was perfectly curated - and Nick was the most amazing guide. From impromptu raps and songs to weaving stories, pouches and jewellery - he went over and beyond to make us smile.
He, along with Pynk and Tenny made the trip much more full of life and spirit. Definitely recommend ChaloHoppo for exploring the NorthEast.
We were 7 of us and we are so grateful to have experienced such a smooth journey!
We had varied terrains planned from waterfalls, to forests, to treks, to emerald pools, to caves and rivers!
We had the best guides that did the experiences with us throughout the trip - each of them were so well versed with the local spots in and around each place!
We got to know many things about the culture, food and places in Meghalaya due to the detailed planning done by Chalohoppo!
We highly recommend going only and only with a guided trip in Meghalaya to have the full cultural and natural experience!
I decided to travel again with ChaloHoppo to the Ziro Festival of Music, and couldn't have been happier with the hospitality, and warmth at the Campsite. Everything was meticulously planned, starting with the distribution of gumboots, to the washrooms and water supply, the incredibly homely meals, and the activities at the camp. Fishing in the local Apatani style, sipping on pineapple wine in the middle of the rice fields, and sleeping to the sound of silence will be my favourite takeaways from my most memorable trip in the North East! Thank you ChaloHoppo!
