Wonderful place to visit in Rainy season. You can feel Hill station feeling nearly Indore with a joy ride of Heritage train. If you want to enjoy whole trip then don't rely on food served by Railways, Keep food of your own if you don't want to spoil your trip at the end.

The last stop for the 'Mhow-Kalakund' heritage train, this station is pretty picturesque and offers majestic views to the Passengers. It is said that the Station is used to be famous for a sweet dish known as 'Kalakand (कलाकंद ), so the people started calling the station 'Kalakand' which over a period of time become 'Kalakund'. A highly recommended place to visit especially in the monsoons!!

You can visit there by the heritage train which starts from meow , take a halt of 30mins at patalpani and then stops at kala kund for around 3 hours and then back to meow. The route of the train is very beautiful and adventurous. There is one bridge on the way and four Tunnels making the journey awesome. There are canteens in kalakund where you can eat and can also buy the famous meethai kalakand from here. As it's a big halt you can go for a picnic with friends and family. There is also a river where you can chill and also garden and swings. It's best if you visit during monsoon or winters.

A good to go place for a day outing. Try to visit in rainy season or in extreme winters. Its quite boring and exhausting in a sunny day. Carry some mats with you to sit. Carry hat and goggles. Wear shoes. Overall its good to go

This station is an absolute bliss - located about 30Km from Mhow, the station is served by two pairs of passenger trains - Mhow-Omkareshwar passengers - in each direction daily and a tourist train that departs from Mhow at 11 AM, takes a 45 min halt at Patalpani and 30 min at choral river bridge before terminating here at 1.15. The return journey is two hours later at 3.30 and takes one hour to reach Mhow.
The tourist train is perhaps the best way to explore the place. Once you reach, you could have lunch at the circuit house located across the track and spend an hour at the river. There is also a hanuman mandir a 30 min trek from the river. Kalakund is also famous for its tasty Kalakand, which is sold in carts. Otherwise, there is greenery all around and the place is right in the middle of a forest - a valley actually.
Wear comfortable shoes and carry snacks and goggles/ hats etc. If you are planning to travel to Indore, Mandu, Maheshwar or Omkareshwar from ere by road, please ensure that your vehicle is pre booked and reaches the station before time - the road from the highway is an offroad stretch for about 12kms with a few water crossings and it takes about 45 min to travel through unspoilt wilderness - simply an out of world experience....
Monsoon probably is the best time to visit, but mobility may be restricted as one needs to walk through uneven and slippery surface to reach the river and the current may be high. plan accordingly... Winters could be better with good climate and no oppressive heat....
