The King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj used to come from this gate while in the palanquin hence known as palanquin gate...Amazing structure still standing strong.... Government did some renovation and built few steps downside of this gate and now you can see the government built steps are not there but the original steps are still in same shape and standing strong....

Main gate for palkhi

Palakhi Darwaja was used for the entry and exit of Palanquin of King to King's palace. The convoy of the king and the king himself used the Palkhi Darwaja on the north side. To the right of Palkhi Darwaja, is a row of three dark and deep chambers. Historians believe that these were the granaries for the fort.

This is a royal gate that you will find just in front of the Rani Vasa Chamber. This door served as a special doorway to the Shivaji Maharaj’s convoy during his empire. On the right side of the gate, there are three dark chambers that are huge and served as great granaries to store grains at that time...
