Sahastradhara literally transforms into “a thousand streams”. As the name goes , one could see numerous small natural water falls. These falls occur due to a rocky terrain formation at one portion of the mighty Narmada River. The river flows through those rocky obstacles and creates a wonderful sight .

The sun shines over the river and gives a glistening appearance to it. You could hear the flow of river that creates symphony in its own way. The shore of the river is a rocky terrain , so one needs to be careful while traversing .The breeze gives you a cool feeling even when you are in the sun. All these beautiful things create a relaxing peaceful atmosphere.

We reached here by boarding a boat from the Narmada Ghat at Maheshwar Fort. You could either take a common boat with many passenger or you could hire your own private boat for a family. Rates differ accordingly. But this boat ride is worth it . If you are with a good company then this becomes an amazing experience .

Once you reach at the point where you have to get off the boat , you’ll find local people with different food stalls. You can even enjoy hot spicy Maggie or even have sugar cane juice . Please do keep in mind to throw your garbage in the bins only .

Sahastradhara literally means a thousand streams. Narmada river flows over a rocky patch here and so the main flow breaks down into many streams. With sunlight falling over the streams, it creates a silvery and gleaming river. Visitors won't see this sight in the monsoon as the river will have a lot more water to break down. Hence, winter is the best season to visit the waterfall where one gets totally engrossed in the mesmerizing play of the streams of Maa Narmada.

Besides, there are numerous streams of crystal clear water, and it is very pleasant to sit by the side of the water and enjoy the peace. One can visit this place by boat ride or by road. A 15-20 minute boat ride away from Ahilyabai Ghat and then one should walk in the river towards water over the rocks for some distance. Since the place does not require climbing, it can be visited by elders also.

Good thing was we can hear the sound of th river. But you have to walk on the rocks to reach near the river. There were some local shopkeepers selling fruits & snack items. 1 time visit place. 2 lane streets where people park the car & then walk to the waterfall area. You can't take pets to this place.

We went in winter. The atmosphere was also cooler, and the river flow was beautiful. There were however hardly any visitors.

Narmada is a holy river for Indians. Also known as Rewa. In “ Narmada Parikrama” they take a full round around the river travelling over 2400 km on foot. It is one of the most gruelling pilgrimages. We saw three pilgrims at the nearby temple.

Government can develop Sahastradhara into a great tourist attraction..

It is not a waterfall but it is a water way through rocky structure.
Still the view ambience was very awesome and breeze was very cool. Good place but one shoud take precautions while walking and sitting near water.
Rocks are bit slippery and fall may cause injuries to one.
Otherwise there is only one stall for snacks, tea and sugarcane juice.
