Dam landscape view was excellent, dam was not well maintained.

Pothundi Dam is an irrigation dam near Pothundi village in the Palakkad district of Kerala state, India. Constructed in the 19th century, it is considered one of the oldest dams in India. The dam is located en route to Nelliyampathy Hills. A beautifully landscaped, well-maintained dam garden beckons visitors at the entrance. With a plethora of rides and manicured trees and plants, the garden is built to provide happiness to children and elders alike.
Spanning the garden will take one to the toe of the dam. The steps to the crest of the dam might look strenuous, but it’s worth the effort. A stunning view of Nelliyampathy Hills awaits visitors at the top. Take a stroll along the crest to get a panoramic view of the reservoir in the backdrop of the hills on one side and green paddy fields on the other.

You will witness this dam as soon you enter the forest Check post on your way to Nelliampathy, you will commence the climb up hill from here. Do stop by and enjoy the beautiful green forest with the sound of Peacocks and other creatures. The view of dam is very mesmerizing.

A peaceful retreat at an affordable price. One can visit here with ease. Must visit nearby destinations from Coimbatore. No food available here. A one day trip satisfied ! One should visit to enjoy the nature. Friendly guards. Roads and route has to be taken care.

Located around 42 km from Palakkad town, the earthen dam was built in the 19th century using a mixture of jaggery and quick lime instead of the usual concrete. Nestled at the foothills of Nelliyampathy Hills, the dam provides irrigation across 5,470 hectares in Palakkad district and caters to the drinking water needs of Nemmara, Ayalur and Melarcode panchayats. Constructed across Padipuzha and Meenichiladipuzha rivers, the dam forms a reservoir covering an area of 30km.
