Flats was extended by the 1880 landslide. It's the main playground for the local sports... mainly cricket, hockey and football. It also serves as the ground for holding fairs and mega-public events after the monsoons are over. A part of it is allocated for car parking which is extended to cover over 75% of area during the summer tourist season.

It's a multi-utility open area at an high end (Mallital) of the Nainital lake. Mostly frequented by the tourist, as it forms the hub for the tourist attractions around. It has a parking lot at one end and to the other has sports arena called DSA ground. It is fun watching sports tournaments being organized during different time of the year. During festive season, the ground is converted into temporary shopping lanes, showcasing and selling different stuffs like clothing, kitchen appliances, artifacts, toys, spices, fast food etc.
