Sarnath, also known as Sarang-nath, is one of the oldest heritage in Varanasi. It is around 7km from Varanasi Station and 8km from Varanasi International Airport.

Sarnath is famous as a site where Gautam buddha first taught the dharma. Its has park, temple, and a museum.

I would recommend you to plan your first in morning itself, as to roam and visit the complete area, one would certainly need a 1-2 days.

If this bit of information helps you, consider upvoting my review.

This place is awesome.
Sarnath is a small village in Uttar Pradesh, situated about 13 km north-east of the holy city of Varanasi. Formerly known as Isipatana, it is famous as the site where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma, or where Buddha preached his first sermon. It is also the place where the original Sangha was formed.

Visiting Timings:-
Sarnath Museum remains open all days except friday from 9 in the morning to 5 in the evening.

Is camera allowed in Sarnath temple?

Photography is not permitted inside the Sarnath museum, which may come as disappointment to many visitors.

Beautifully decorated well maintained site of Lord Buddha's 1st preaching spot. One need to hire guide. Don't go for touts but hire an affiliated guide of tourism dept. They charges an average of 100₹ per head almost only for stupa site. Guide charges extra fees for museum. To enter one need to book tickets via smart phone connected with a online payment wallet. Ticket price for both museum and dhamek stupa site is 25₹. Photography is allowed whereas commercial shooting is prohibited without permission. Small seats of mahayani (square) hinayani (circular) vajrayani (rectangular) can be seen along with dhamek and dharmarajika stupa and ashok stambh foundation pillar, panchyati seat of Buddha and many more to mention are worth seeing.
