Tiruvakkarai located 20km from Pondicherry.
200 fossil trees ranging in length from 3-15 m and upto 5 m in girth are seen lying horizontally embdedded in Cuddalore Sandstone of Mio-Pliocene age approx 20 million years ago.
This park contains petrified wood fossils approximately 20 million years old, scattered throughout the park, which covers about 247 acres The park consists of nine enclaves, but only a small portion of the 247 acres (approx 1 square km) is open to the public. These fossils were formed during massive flooding that occurred millions of years ago.
While visiting this place carry snacks/food and Water. No water /Snack shop nearby Dont throw your carbages.Dispose in Dust Bin .Keep the area clean and Tidy
Nearby 1km Vakrakali amman temple is located with Chandra Moulieswarar. Those having confused / weak minded personnel shall visit this near by amman temple on Full moon day so that the brain will be energized by Cosmic Energy.
It is to be said that the old tree woods were turn into stones 🪵🪨
There are 1000 year's more than live this park in this thiruvakkarai.
I still wonder why govt hasn't shown interest and persue research in it in a dedicated manner. There must be a huge history.
Its needs to be revealed.
No data for the fossils were kept there.
Fossils were painted for marking which ruins its quality.
Pls visit the place
