With several tonnes of scrap mounting in the civic body’s vehicle depot, officials have decided to set up another scrap sculpture park in the city at the greenery stretch developed adjacent to National Highway ( NH-16), between Ramavarappadu Ring and Ramesh Hospital junction.
According to VMC officials, in March 2016, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) with the support of Cultural Center of Vijayawada (CCV), had conducted a four-day art and sculpture camp in the city.
Sculptors from various parts of the State had attended the camp. They made structures of antelope, swan, camel, owl, dinosaur, flying horse, dragonfly, giraffe, cranes and cow out of gear shafts, exhaust pipes, wheel rims, chassis rails, and every other bit of scrap available on the vehicle depot at Poornandampeta.
The scrap sculpture park was thrown open to public in August 2016 on the Ryves canal bund stretch near Police Control Room Junction as part of city beautification project. Sculptures made out of scrap attracted the eyeballs of the pilgrims and they thronged the park to click photographs with the structures.
