This lake was formed during the monsoon in 1962, when the torrential rain water created a massive landslide in one of the parts of Cherangode mount. As a result, many lives of locals who were residing the cliffs of this mountain were lost. Finally, the lake formed and a stream that runs through the village and falls into the meemutti waterfalls which is 15 KM away from this place.
