about
About 40 km from Palampur, 21 km from Dharamsala and 45 km from Pragpur, Kangra Nagarkot Fort lies on the outskirts of Kangra town. The fort withstood invaders from Mahmud of Ghazni to Jehangir, became a Mughal outpost and was ultimately taken by the British in 1846. Much of it was destroyed during the 1905 earthquake. The views from the ramparts are magnificent and a few simple shrines are still in use. The small museum here has stone carvings from temples inside the fort and miniature paintings from the Kangra School.

While the fort itself and the inner temple is in ruins, the history is unparalleled and it's a beautiful view at the top. Definitely worth the visit as the fort dates back to antiquity. The museum is built beautifully and has a lot of information. It's a must visit, especially after having seen the fort itself. Definitely recommended!

Needs a little love. Nice place to walk around and stare at the Himalayas and while away an afternoon. Lots of walking up stairs. 38 flights to be exact
