Very informative museum, rich with Indian coal mining history. One can understand why town is called Coal Queen. Engines, pumps, documents and coins with other instruments more than hundred year old placed here. Main attraction is a small mine showcasing mining process.

Good place, good location, easily accessible. Very rich in knowledge and information. You can experience the coal mines and other working units which are not very accessible to the common public. There is a replica of an actual underground coal mine there, don't hesitate to to down there. But the metal park and the lack there was not properly maintained. Hence, 4 starts. Visit it with family, kids and students. Great experience.

Good collection of historical facts and things that showcases the rich and colorful history of the region. It shows how important this areas were during the British raj and how developed we were compared to some of the other regions in India. A must visit if you are going to Margherita.

Nice museum by Coal India gives glimpse of coal industry. Could be relevant in future as coal is a sunset industry. One learns about how coal mining began in the area and role it played in local economy. Also, how the town came to be called Margherita. Maintenance could be better as some exhibits are shut for want of it.

Just Wooow😲. First time I have ever visited into any museum, and this museum is very well established, clean and good for Photography. You can find 19th century items too here, including coins, stamps of every country, old telephones, old cameras etc.

The museum has been established for preservation of materials from the over 120 years of the coal mining history in this part of the world. The Margherita-Ledo coal mining story started in the year 1881 when British-owned Assam Railways and Trading Company (ARTC) discovered the black diamond in this part of the country and the actual mining had started in the year 1884. Since then whatever the company used along with various types of presently available tools, machines, vehicles, camera projectors, and all these antiques including important documents, photographs, etc., have been displayed in the museum for public viewing. The museum will also provide materials for research works in geology and mining. It may also be mentioned that the first Director of the company was Dr. John Berry White who also pioneered the first Medical School at Dibrugarh that has subsequently been upgraded to the present-day Assam Medical College. The inaugural function was also attended by Chief General Manager, NECF, Anil Kr Bora and General Manager Debashish Sarkar, besides other distinguished guests, officers and employees of NECF.
Coal mining is the process of extracting coal from the ground. Coal is valued for its energy content and since the 1880s has been widely used to generate electricity. Steel and cement industries use coal as a fuel for extraction of iron from iron ore and for cement production
