Great Man's Great Work...Masjid-E-Ala or Jama Masjid is a two storeyed mosque that was built by Tipu Sultan. Situated near the Bangalore Gate of the fort built by Tipu Sultan, the mosque has an inscription mentioning the 99 names of Allah. In the mosque are also housed records that date its construction by Tipu in 1787 AD. First imamath at the mosque was performed by Tipu Sultan himself.

A spacious prayer hall with the 'Mihrab' on the west is covered by a verandah. The mosque stands on a high basement with an open court in the open court in the front. Two octagonal minarets with pigeon-holes are surmounted by domes. By climbing 200 steps, the top of the minarets can be reached to avail an aerial view of the destination.

In the mosque is also located a religious school known as the Madrasa. A clock that has been showing the time since 97 years is also located within the mosque. Painted white, it is known to be Tipu’s favourite mosque.

Best place to worship for . Peaceful environment, beat parking space, well maintained , totally hygienic. The best thing i suggest is to pray all friday namaaz here. They never discriminate between tableeq and sunni . One more reason is that the staff they maintained is trustworthy and so friendly whom you can rely up on .
