One of the oldest medical College and hospital in Gorakhpur UTTAR PRADESH.

The BRD Medical College was established in 1969 and is affiliated to Gorakhpur University. It was initially developed as a centre for treating mosquito-borne diseases.The Nehru Hospital is affiliated with the college. It[clarification needed] has 700 beds, with an additional 108 beds in Epidemic Ward.

The college is run by the state government.In August 2014, the Union Health Ministry led by Harsh Vardhan announced a plan to modernise the institute's infrastructure and to transform into a "super-speciality facility" on par with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Scientists at the Government Regional Public Analyst Laboratory on the college campus were the first to discover that Maggi noodles contain too much monosodium glutamate (MSG), resulting in a high-profile case in the media.

BRD Medical College is the only tertiary referral hospital in a 300 km2 area around Gorakhpur, serving patients from 15 surrounding districts.It is a major centre for treating encephalitis, a disease that has seen regular outbreaks during the monsoon season in the Gorakhpur region.Patients, especially poor ones, come from several neighbouring districts, Bihar, and the neighbouring country of Nepal. According to a 2017 estimate, the BRD Medical College treats over 60% of the encephalitis cases in India and receives 2500–3000 encephalitis patients every year. Most of the encephalitis cases arrive during August–October, when the number of patients in the hospital ranges from 400–700.

College is very good. But in nehru chikitsalaya there were many medical students who were doing practical on patients. It's scary that senior doctors are not available in the Emergency ward. They are taking a registration fee of 10 rupees for emergencies but it's free of cost.

Better doctors available here. Who Take care of their patients very well. But you have to stand in long queue for registration and doctor's room.

It was like a dream come true for citizens of Eastern part of Uttar Pradesh state, that is Purvanchal, when the seed of inception of this medical college was sown in November of 1969. Its foundation stone was laid by the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Late Shri Chandra Bhanu Gupta. It was named after a devoted freedom fighter Baba Raghav Das who was a prominent Sarvoday Leader of this area and close associate of Mahatma Gandhi and Acharya Vinoba Bhave.First batch of MBBS students was admitted on 7th August 1972. Since then this college has grown and now runs post graduate courses in various specialties.

Infrastructure: The total area of BRD Medical College campus is 147.6 acres, and total constructed area is more than 12,000 sq.mts.

Baba Raghav Das, popularly known as 'Gandhi of Poorvanchal', was born in a rich Brahman family on 12 December 1896 at Pune, Maharastra. He played a great role in the political, social, economic, and the cultural activities of the nation. After his education he left Mumbai in 1913 in search of a siddh guru and reached Kashi. After that he went to Ghazipur, where he met 'Mauni baba' and learned Hindi. Later he met 'YogirajAnantMahaprabhu' and accepted him as his guru. In 1921, Mahatma Gandhi visited Gorakhpur. Baba met Gandhiji and since then he continuously worked for independence and served the oppressed people. He was imprisoned for the first time in 1921. Baba accompanied Gandhiji during Dandi March and sincerely involved himself in the freedom struggle.
