Rishi Rajnarayan Basu Memorial Public Library

Major Public Library, Library Road.

Historical one, oldest library in India. Raj Narayan Bosu was grand father of rishi Arabinda Ghosh. Mr Bosu was 2nd pandit of sanskit college and HM of Midnapore collegiate school. All pupils of Midnapur are proud to him. Pranam.

Stocks are not so high. Probably you have to be satisfied with story books.

The library is very old.More books are required to make it enriched.

It is one of the oldest library (founded in 1851) in India. Best place to read book peacefully. You can find a collection of news paper and also Bengali journals. Besides a pond named Kella Pukur. The asthetic view of the park is awesome. You can read things in also the park with this awesome environment is truly value able.

With the immense contributions of Henry Vincent Bayley, Raj Narayan Basu and other erudite persons this library was established in 1851 as very first public library of India(as the executive committee of library has claimed for a long times) in Midnapur district of Bengal. After facing many up and downs this public library got its present name as Rajnarayan Basu Smriti Pathagar and its own permanent building in 1940 as well. Although many valuable collections are either lost or damaged for lack of maintance, but some very rare books and manuscripts are still available. Many books are found more than 7 languages and various contents like Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Persian, Odiya,English, Sanskrit.
