In brief it can said that some local young boys of Naihati established a club in Mitra Para and named as ‘Kishore Samity’. They used to read literature and political articles in their Monthly general meeting. They had a small library mainly for holistic and patriotic books. A hand written magazine named ‘Janani’ was published from there. They were arrested by British Police for their work. The parents of these boys were scared and they closed the library.

The boys were deeply hurt on their parent’s decision. They arranged at around 150 books and a small Almirah by collecting donations and established a library named ‘Bankim Pathagar’, after the name of ‘Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhaya’ who was born at that place. On 10th January ,1921 the library was established in the house of Late harihar Mukhopadhaya and Roy Bahadur Baradakanta Mitra , the Chairman of Naihati Municipality , was selected as President. The library got regular financial help from the Municipality as directed by the President.

In the year of 1926-27,18 katha land was bought by the library at Rs. 2100/-.

Bankim Sangrahashala is the library museum of Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the great novelist and poet of India. It is located at Kanthalpara, Naihati in the North 24 Paraganas . The museum occupies only a portion of the big ancestral house. The spot is significant because Rishi Bankim Chandra wrote and composed the national song of India, Vande Mataram over here.
