Mother in Law had sudden loss of right eye sight , within 2-3days, left eye is also gradually decreasing, talked to local doctor who advised to take her to Nethralaya. Immediately on Friday we arrived. Registration, test are affordable and being a trust does not charge much. Doctor at OPD2 advised a few test including MRI n Serum ACE. Mri n Serum ACE done outside. Serum ACE samples taken but results are given 3-4 days later but laboratory generally states 7-10days . with each day her eyesight decreasing, all reports ready except Serum ACE we headed Nethralaya but to our disappointment Doctor was not available on the day. It's quite OK that Doctor may not be available but I asked for some other doctors assistance as to what the causes n Treatment be at receptionist desk at opd2, but they simply refused to help but asked to come after the Serum ACE report comes!! Can a 65 y old with each day diminishing eyesight wait for another 3-4 days staying in dark what the treatment be like?? Doesn't she had the right to know the diagnosis is even if partial?? Losing hope Same day had a talk another renowned doct n undergoing treatment , time lost is opportunity lost.. irreversible loss. If you are in need of emergency help best is to avoid , if you have lots of time to spend then they are the best

A few days ago I took my mom to this hospital for her eye treatment . I did not know where to go, what to do, but the hospital staff helped me a lot, for which I am grateful to them. There is no talk of doctors because doctors are like God. Their behaviour is excellent. I met there two ladies who helped me a lot and one of them considered my mom as her own reletive and did everything according to her capacity for us. I am very grateful .

I can explain you better with an example how I find the organisation during my treatment.
If you purchase one cup of tea from an ordinary store it will cost you rs 10/- same thing If you take from a 3 star hotel it will cost you rs 100/- just 10 times more.
Same thing happened here.
They are charging 10 times more for cataract surgery. They make people fool . Moreover there Prescription are high valued, ordinary people cannot afford there services. Try to avoid this hospital you will find better option with half of there price, one more thing I want to inform you that I have experience that there is a person in every opd waiting lounge who forced the patient to give 5 Star review with good comments .
So jitne bhi 5 Star review app log dekh rahe hai sare fake hai .
Logo ka paisa lutne bayta hai.

Very good hospital in north east speciality in ophthalmology, all kinds of treatments are available.
I have noticed something uncommon in OPD building in 3rd floor male washroom near OPD 8 that urinals near one to one haveno curtain/walls.

It is an excellent hospital to visit for eye related problems. Biggest of its kind in the north east India. Patients are looked after well by qualified competent specialists with good support from paramedics and non medical staff. An well organised institution.

Best Eye hospital in the entire Guwahati, those people have ayushmaan card of India govt, they can get the treatment done in a very affordable price, and the place is neat and clean and also maintains very good behaviour with the patients. Overall a very good hospital.

With state -of- the-art infrastructure & facilities, Sri Shankara Nethralaya is truly a good option for those in the state & region opting for opthalmic consultation, check up or surgery. Both my parents had both their eye surgeries in this hospital. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ganesh Chandra Kuri Sir & his team for their excellence & expertise.
For the uninitiated, the eye hospital has a routine procedure in place that begins with registration, doctor consultation & in case of suggested surgery, necessary pathological tests (expenses not included in mediclaim policies), visit to the research cell, fixing of surgery date with counselor & visit to TPA counter if one has medical insurance, all within the premises of the hospital.
Do take your time to decide a convenient date if you are to undergo surgery, there is no hurry as there will be expenses & convenience to consider as well.
Then, on the day of surgery, do carry your hot water flask, water bottle, biscuit packet, ORS, hand towel, tiffin or diabetic diet as per your requirement (i did for my parents!)
There are canteen facilities but it's a bit on the expensive side. On the day of surgery, you are to undergo the routine BP/ Blood sugar & eye test at the third floor, followed by payment for surgery ( or simple intimation for those with medical insurance) at the Accounts counter.
Following this, the patient shall have to change into the medical robes & pants provided by the nurses. The patient is given eye drops and made to wear a tag on the left or right wrist, depending on the eye to be operated. Then, after a while the patient is taken to the fourth floor for operation.
Post operation, the patient can change his or her robes & rest awhile in the provided bed till the papers for discharge from hospital arrive.
The nurses at the station provide the necessary advice for eye care & after ensuring that the dues are cleared, the patient is permitted to leave. A few points that may be of help are mentioned below:
*The medicines are sold at the pharmacy on the ground floor of the hospital but the service is slow as there isn't adequate staff stationed here.
*For those with age related problems, there are functional lifts with a person who conducts the same.
* For any confusion ask the security staff to guide you through. They are always ready to help.
*There is a coffee shop that also provides snacks. So you could take a break & refresh yourselves. Also, there are lots of plants in & around the place.
* The nursing staff is dedicated but given their work pressure i suppose, they tend to be harsh at times. Empathize & help them to help you.
*For those who are working ( patient or attendants), make sure to have a full day at hand esp. for the pre check up & the surgery day.
* Those from outside Guwahati, do consider guest house or lodging options before hand & also depending on the duration required for the patient's treatment.
*The first & third check up after operation is a must. In general, on the day of second eye visit, if facing any problems or as advised, do visit the hospital.
*The costs depend in the kind of surgery opted, the kind of lens etc. Do discuss with the doctor you are consulting.
*Do follow all the pre & post eye care advice strictly, it's for your own benefit. Do clean your eye as advised to avoid any infection or difficulty.
*Most of the patients are mid or old aged. So if you see any of them confused, lost or sad, do help them in your own little way.
* Drop your suggestions in the box at the main counter of hospital or ask for feedback forms as it will help them improve their services all the more.
* Spread the word, make a difference, even if it's a tiny one
