The southern gateway or the Amar Singh Gate was originally known as 'Akbar Darwaza' and was reserved for Mughal emperor Akbar and his personal entourage. Shah Jehan renamed it after the brave Rao Amar Singh of Jodhpur. According to the interesting anecdote, Amar Singh slew Salabat Khan, the chief treasurer of Shah Jehan in front of the emperor. Then he leapt with his horse over the high walls of the fort. The horse died with the fatal jump and Amar Singh was arrested and put to death. However, his courage won the admiration of the emperor and the gate was renamed as Amar Singh Gate in his honor. A red sandstone statue of his horse was erected at the very spot where he died.

This fort looks similar to Golconda fort at Bhagyanagar (Hyd). Better to take online ticket here, as you can avoid long Q line and also get some discount through online ticket. People will spend 1 to 2 hours here.

If you want to go explore Agra you must go to Amar Singh Gate of Agra Red Fort because it's a good place. This place is located near Tajmahal. Cheap and best place so i personally recommend it to go here.

This gate is the southern gate of Agra fort. It was originally named as Akbar Darwaza. Later, Shah Jahan renamed it after brave Rao Amar Singh ji of Jodhpur. His horse died while he made a fatal jump on the walls of Agra fort to escape after Salabat Khan(treasurer of Shah Jahan) was killed by Amar Singh in front of emperor himself. Later Amar Singhji was arrested and with due respect of his courage, the gate name was changed. The architecture of the gate is amazing and photogenic.

Amar Singh gate or Lahore gate as it’s known here is the main gate to enter the fort for tourists. There is another gate which is closed for public as it’s Indian military duty place. Nevertheless the beautiful journey of monument can be seen from here as someone’s heart is opened to visit. Once you enter the gate you will see the magical echo wall where you clap and see the magic of sound coming back to your ear 👂 this is a trick to fort people and maintain the military significance of ancient times as per the local stories told by people. Visit and enjoy your beautiful journey urself ❤️❤️

Main entrance to the Agra Fort for tourists is via the Amar Singh Gate.
There is a small draw bridge which connects the entrance with the external pathway leading to the entrance.

Earlier during the rule of the mughals, this gate was exclusively used by Akbar and his entourage.
