Madan Mohan temple complex has a dazzling white one-storeyed structure as its centrepiece. It’s a fine blending of Hindu , Islamic and Central Asian architectural traditions. Built by Maharaja Nripendra Narayan, the deities residing within the premises are Madan Mohan, Ma Kali, Ma Bhavani and Ma Tara. The original idol of Madan Mohan, made up of pure gold was stolen some years back and had been replaced with another gold idol by Gayatry devi.
The famous Rash Mela of Cooch Behar is held 100 m from the temple and celebrated in honour of Madan Mohan. During this time, theRash Chakra is a huge structure decorated with floral designs and pictures of Madan Mohan Lord krishna, built on the temple grounds. It symbolises brotherhood between all religions and is made by a Muslim family every year - a tradition held since the reign of Raja Nripendra Narayan.
