মল্লারাজ বীরসিংহ ১৬৫৮ খ্রী: শ্রীরাধিকা ও কৃষ্ণের আনন্দের জন্য এই পাথরের মন্দিরটি প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। এই মন্দিরের বিগ্ৰহ বর্তমানে কৃষ্ণগঞ্জ মহল্লায় নবনির্মিত মন্দিরে প্রতিষ্ঠিত। এই মন্দিরটি দৈঘ্যে ও প্রস্থে ১২.৩ মিটার এবং উচ্চতা ১০.৭ মিটার।
( Mallaraj Birsingh established this stone temple for the joy of Sirradhika and Krishna in 1658. Big temple of this temple is currently established in the newly built temple in Krishnaganj mahalla. This temple is 12.3 meters in length and width and 10.7 meters in height).
Nandalal temple was built in the second half of seventeenth century. It is a 'Eka-Ratna' style temple made of rust coloured laterite. The temple constructed on a low platform has a square base and Bengali ‘chala’ type curved roof. A single tower or 'sikhara' is resting on the roof. Structurally it has similarity with Radha Madhav temple. That means there are covered porches on all four sides around the innermost sanctuary where the idol is kept, and there are three arched openings at each of the two adjacent sides of the temple. Very little decoration or bas-relief is still present on its walls. Once there was stone carving of different patterns and figures covered with stucco work on the wall, which is mostly washed out. In Bishnupur every historical temple/ building has terracotta art so it's not different.
Nandalal means son of Nanda ji. So definitely we know this temple is dedicated to Prabhu krishna.
One fine garden articulated properly with the temple can be seen.
I like the roof design ( which is in curved sized)as there is no cement or gypsum but still the roof hasn't been bent down. It shows the knowledge which our ancestors hold.
This temple is standing naked without deity of Nandalal. It's heartening to see the temple without deity. However maybe there was some reason which forced archeological department to do this.
No entry fees is required to enter this temple.
Direction: it's quite far from the busstand. Maybe the distance b/w busstand and this temple is 2.5km.
One of the seven Ek-Ratna temples in Bishnupur, Nandalal Temple is surrounded by a lush green garden. The fact about the creator of this temple is unknown. However, it is believed that the temple was built in the 17th century. The south-facing temple has a square ground plan with a single tower resting on a curved roof characteristic of Bengal-type. There is very little ornamentation of the lower relief of the arches of the front facade. Currently, there is no deity inside the temple.
Visitors can get the entry tickets for all the Bishnupur temples from Rasmancha including this one. Else, visitors are not allowed to enter inside the temple.
