It is actually a Sati peeth. The skull (মাথার তালু বা করোটি) Maa Sati has fallen here. In one of the picture you can see a stone type structure which is being worshipped. That is the skull of Mata Sati.

There are many legends related to this place. One legend says the following: the daughter-in-law of Jaminder of Harinathpur, in the reception of her marriage, was serving food to Brahmins (Braahman bhojan). While serving, her Ghomta(the part of saree used to cover the face) fell and everyone saw her as mother Kali; laying out her tongue (the act when some mistake is done) and had four hands. Then she put down the serving tray and quickly ran off. People saw that she walked on Ganga river and came to the Sati peeth and went into the banyan tree and vanished. When her family came and called for her and requested her to reveal herself, she spreaded her arms out from the banyan tree.

There is one tunnel underground in which rooms are constructed where sadhakas and tantriks used to perform their sadhana. Now, no one is there. One saint came few years back and said to the people that in those rooms, a panchamukhi naag lives now. One day, a person went to clean those rooms and saw big sparkling eyes of a large snake. That person immediately ran and came out. After that incident the Pujari now keeps it locked since people may go and disturb the snake.

The place is quiet, calm, serene and spiritual. It will uplift you if you are down in you mood. Definitely, you should visit the place. Every Tuesday and Saturday there will be special puja and people go there. You go on Pous maas during maghi purnima when there is a large fair.

Juranpur Kalibari is one of the among 51 Sati Peeth in India. Goddess Shakti is worshipped here as Maa Joy Durga under a Banyan Tree. During Maghi Purnima a very big fair takes place here. It is very close to Matiari.
