A wonderful ancient Divya desam temple. Was fortunate enough to visit this temple the second time in my life. A temple where the lord is having sowri in his hair to save the priest from the king.

A temple where the lord ate the pongal from a devotee called, muniyodaran, and the practice is carried out till date and the pongal is even called muniyodaran pongal.

Great temple. Spent 2 hrs. No paramapadha vasal. Perumal is asking kannigaadhanam to ubarisaravasu mannan and peumal hand is in the form of asking dhaanam. Prasadam is very famous here. Muniyodharam pongal is 50 rs and token is given. Everyday night 8 45 it is distributed. Monthly once sowriraja perumal, show his nadai alankaram to Vibhessana (Separate shrine for him). Urchavar perumal has sowri which lies a legendary story. near to Thirukulam there is anjaneyar temple. Dosai is 5rs. It is very dense and is enough to fill stomach of 2 people

I visited this temple as my Divya Desam darshan. This is the no. 17th temple of Perumal. A huge campus with ancient architecture. So divine, so serene. The water body in front of the temple is too big. Blessed to witness such place and get blessings.

It is one of the 108 DivyaDesam dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Neelamegha Perumal (also called as Neela Meghar) and his consort Lakshmi as Thirukannapura Nayagi. As per Hindu legend, the presiding deity is believed to have appeared with a wig (called sowri locally) to save a devotee, leading to the name Sowriraja Perumal (also called as Sowrirajan or Sowrirajar). The temple has a seven-tiered rajagopuram, the temple's gateway tower and a huge temple tank in front of it.

The temple rituals are performed six times a day: Ushathkalam at 7 a.m., Kalasanthi at 8:00 a.m., Uchikalam at 12:00 p.m., Sayarakshai at 6:00 p.m., Irandamkalam at 7:00 p.m. and Ardha Jamam at 10:00 p.m. Each ritual has three steps: alangaram (decoration), neivethanam (food offering) and deepa aradanai (waving of lamps) for both Neelamegha Perumal and Tirukannapura Nayagi. And three yearly festivals are held at the temple, of which the chariot festival, celebrated during the Tamil month of Vaikasi (April–May), is the most prominent. Masi Mahotsavam is another ten-day festival during the Tamil month of Masi (February - March). Margazhi ten-day festival (December - January).
On every ammavaasai (no moon day) they conduct nadai azhagu sevai @12 noon, which looks pretty on every month.

Temple timing: 6 am to 12 noon
4:30 pm to 8 pm

Temple is fine, but most of the Sannadhis are non-humaned no Archakars seen even on the peakest timings. Temple adminstration has to be taken care to supervise all the above mentioned things, atleast on the peak days such as Monday, Wednesday, Friday and weekends.
