The most attractive feature of this temple is the imposing 7 tiered gopuram . It was built in modern times, though the basic shrine seems to have a centuries long history . It is a vast campus , with a large, open courtyard , very pleasant and breezy in the evening , which comes as a surprise as the temple is situated in a very congested locality with narrow lanes. Modern additions include dioramas of mythological stories around the vimanam . A short walk away from the temple is the temple tank , with fairly clean water .

Holy place. A temple which is usually crowded. They do maintain well.
It will be nice if they had more volunteers to guide and make the queue move faster duing the crowded days.

Lord Kaaraneeswarar and his consort Goddess Sornambikai are both beautiful, majestic and graceful.
This is considered to be a Navagraha Parihara Sthalam (for Budhan) of Chennai. This place is called as Kaaraneechuram.
There is a sannidhi inside this temple for Lord Soundareswarar with his consort Goddess Thripurasundari.
Legend says that Sivachaitanya Muni, Aathonda Chakravarthy and Gurulinga Swamy attained Mukthi by worshipping Lord Shiva here.
Both Temple & Temple pond are big and well maintained.
Must visit temple.
