This is a historic place which has so much of significance attached to it. This famous temple was visited by Shri Pranab Mukherjee when he was the President of India. If you’re visiting Thanjavur, do not forget to visit this place.

This is located 6kms from the city railway station. Goddess is formed with the anthill mud. Hence the procedure of taking care of the Goddess is different here. Once in 5 years, there is a ritual held where Goddess is offered Sambrani which cleanses (instead of regular bath).

The temple is believed to cure age old diseases and also make your dream come true. All you need to do is to offer Salt, Jaggery and the likes. The first two are immersed in water. A tank is constructed specifically for this.

Also there is a specific day (Sunday but not all the Sunday) wherein devotees are allowed to stay inside the temple premises. It is believed that their wishes/dreams come true.

There is also a specific yogi (who is believed to have identified the God) whose picture and a statue is located inside the temple.

Temple also offers Annadhanam (free food) which is stopped due to Corona.

God Ganesh & Kartikeya also has a statue/idol inside the temple. There are three Praharas - inner or 1st Prahara, 2nd Prahara & 3rd or outer Prahara.

Visit this temple to know more.

I visited Mariamman Temple for the first time but my parents have been there a few times. Traveled from Erode to this temple straight away. We took a bath in one of the marriage halls surrounded by the temple. Unfortunately, it was not well maintained. Since we paid the money, we did not go to the next one. If you plan to do the same, one of you inside first and see if it's satisfactory then pay money and take a bath. This temple was built by Serfoji II (Maratha King). Very old temple and you can see old structures. I wish the relevant admin maintains this temple cleanly inside and outside. People are there but not doing their duty well. But overall we had a nice time.
