We visited this temple in Thanjavur which is about 4kms from the main town on the Thanjavur Kumakonam highway. It is on the banks of the river Vennar and is one of the three temples which comprise Thanjaimamani koil.Perumal is Neelamegaham in sitting posture facing east and Thayar is Shenkamalavalli.Perumal manifested for the sake of Parasara maharishi who was meditating on the banks of Vennar by three asura brothers. This Perumal sent Garuda to protect the sage. He then manifested as Neelamegha perumal and killed one of the asuras called Thanjakan. Thanjakan at the time of death regreted for his bad deeds and sought forgiveness. It is commemorating this that the place is called Thanjavur and this Perumal temple is called Thanjai mamani koil. This temple has a sannidhi for Swami Desikan and Purattasi Sravanam is celebrated grandly with devotion. Nainarachariar swami established the tradition of chanting Desika Prabhandam during anadhyayana kaalam. Close by are two other temples which can be reached by foot and together comprise a single Divya Desam.

A calm and peaceful place for darshan. Along with Narasimha and Manikundra perumal temple forms a Divya Desam. Also visit Anandavalli thayar-Thanjapureeswarar temple. Also nearby you have Kodi Amman Kovil and Venkatesa perumal temple. The Kundalamman temple is also nearby.

This is the 20th Perumal temple of Divyadesham series located in Thanjavur, TN. We visited this temple in the evening around 6:30pm to 7:00pm. Easily accessible by bike. Roads are very dusty. The Swami ji did the Puja ritual for us. The temple premise was very quiet. One of the ancient Balaji temple.
