One of the holi places for vaishnavaits( those who follow lord Vishnu) among 108 holi places (106 on earth, 2 on celestial world after life the soul would visit per vaishnavaits). Medieval dravidian architecture with compound wall with old inscription, well decorated pillars and beautiful stone carvings. One of the very important festival / event is to retrieve the wooden god lord vishnu made out of fig tree from the temple pond once in every 40 years , decorate it and install in a special pedestal for worship for 48 days during July 1st and Aug 17th. It is a huge crowd pulling event where all believers gather from all over the world. Last event ended on 17 Aug 2019 just before the pandemic. Next is scheduled for 2059. Lot of tourists visit this temple so avoid going on Fridays and weekends. This temple offers free lunch served on banana leaf. There is a special room on the ceiling there is a golden. Lizard. The devotees touch the lizard with a belief that will be relieved of their sins and curses. Finally it can be reached from chennai on a day trip . I went via Wallajabad. The last 20 km road is very bad with bumpy ride. May be there is a better route, but I followed what google map suggested. Avoid going in summer apr—aug as this place is very hot and humid

Varadharaja temple is one of the famous temples in kanchipuram. This temple is larger than other temples because it has seperate deity of goddess named perundevi thayar . First of all have a darshan of perundevi thayar then have darshan of lord vishnu. There is other special in the temple is lizard. It is believed that touching lizards (two lizards silver one and golden one ,golden one is big beside moon and sun carving) will cure the chronic diseases and helps to get away from the sins . Buying special ticket for touching lizards is mandatory. The ticket cost is Rs.2 per head. So please visit if you ever get chance to visit kancheepuram. Here the other special is athi varadhar( deity made of wood athi maram) will be up once in 48 years from the pond and give darahan to devotees so dont miss the opurtunity if you get chance to see athi varadhar. The last appearance was 2021 you have to wait till 2069... its worth of it. The darshan time was upto 12 pm from morning . Then opens at 4 pm to evening. Make visit accordingly

Most iconic temple in the city of temples. The temple of Lord Vishnu is one of the oldest with beautiful sculptures. Witness the marvelous creation of the chain made of stone in mandapam. The temple has special Dharshan of 2 lizards in silver and gold color that is believed to remove the evil deeds and cleanse our soul. To avoid hot sun try to visit in morning before 10 am or evening after 5.

Ancient Lord Vishnu temple that’s quite huge with spacious premises. Devotees can see Lord Vishnu close enough and are made to view the Gods in proper queue lines. There’s Prasadam available in the temple that you can buy. Must have is the sweet Pongal.

A Temple with Rich Heritage and travels back to many centuries. A vast and huge place inside the temple gives ample amount of time to spend in exploring the ancient history & sculptures.

It will be great if you visit the Temple on weekdays rather weekends so you can spend more time inside the temple. Weekends, Holidays are crowded.

Also, parking problem exists.

The Famous Athi Varadar Idol in located in this temple. The next Darshan of Athi Varadar is on 2059.

Very nice ancient vaishnava temple. One of the very important divya desam. Bit of a walk inside and need to climb several steps. Must visit for all vaishnavas. Could be maintained better.

Varadharaja Perumal Temple located in the city of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is of immense religious importance. It is also believed that the Alwars or the poetic saints visited this temple. The temple complex is expansive and is a work of worship that was built during the reign of the Chola Kings. It is, hence, also of great historical importance. Devotees of Lord Vishnu from all over the world visit the temple to seek blessings in Vishnu Kanchi especially during the 10-day Vaikasi Brahmmotsavam, Purattasi Navaratri and Vaikunda Ekadasi. The majestic architecture of the temple complex and the intricate carvings are sure to mesmerise one and all. The serene vibe of this scared spot is so surreal and unexplainable that one really has to visit the temple to experience it.

Varadharaja Perumal Temple is a part of the trio Mumurtivasam along with Ekambareswarar and Kamakshi Amman Temples. The temple is also known as Perumal Koil and is believed to highly sacred in Vaishnavism. Visitors can explore the enormous temple complex that has 32 shrines and other features built according to the ancient temple architecture. This temple has a unique idol of Lord Vishnu made of wood. The idol is kept in a silver box and is immersed in water. Locals believe that the region received good rainfall after the idol is wholly submerged in water. The temple and stories related to it have been mentioned in the Vedanta Desika, Thirtha Prabandha Peyalvar, Bhoothathalvar and several compositions created by Muthuswami and Tyagaraja Dikshitar in the 18th century.
