One of the oldest temple in Madurai. Temple history is backdated to Silapathikaram (சிலப்பதிகாரம்) era. Kannagi rested in this temple hence Kannagi is one of the deity in the temple. Temple construction pattern is similar to Chockanathar/Meenakshi Temple and and was built using stone pillars. Unfortunately couple of stone carvings are diminished. This temple stands as a strong evidence for Silapathikaram (சிலப்பதிகாரம்). I guess this is the only temple in Tamil Nadu for Kannagi and the rest are in Kerala/Sri Lanka
