Must visit temple. But reaching the place is not an easy task. I had been longing to visit this temple since last month after reading an article about pongu saneeshwarar so I searched for reviews so thanks to this site & then searched for routes and buses to reach this temple . Finally we reached the temple this Wednesday after train delay then car driver delay so many obstacles again as we were new to this place & with 4 years children it was very difficult but by the grace of Lord Agneeshwarar we reached the temple @ 10.30 a.m(if everything were on time we would have reached by 9 a.m) & had good darshan of all the deities then we tied black cloth around the tree after archana to sani bagavan. The place was so pleasantful & green so I just clicked few shots with low battery in my mobile. After this we moved to Thirumeyachur temple(2nd visit) & then to Rahu Ketu temple by car itself in same day & returned home safely. So my suggestion to the devotees who are New to this place is to take car from kumbakonam if u have children or older people rather than waiting for bus as it will be tiresome & also couldn't reach the temple on time which will go in vain. It took exactly two hours journey by car from kumbakonam. So plan well before visiting this temple and it is a must visit temple. I have never seen so many lotus flowers as in this temple's pond, I have attached that photo also which made me click photos.

A nice devotional place at kumbakonam. Temple food was fair.. People who asking for financial help make the devotees irritating. People who are at 7.5 years of Saturn 🪐 ( elarai Sani) should visit the temple on saturdays.

The temple was nice and calm. But in very much interior place. Plan to go and return back before sunset after which roads are hardly visible.

Ancient temple, surrounded by farm fields. Nearest Railway station is at Thiruvarur / Mannargudi. Was good in conducting poojas until recent times

The temple is dedicated to Shiva, as the moolvar presiding deity, in his manifestation as Agneeswarar. His consort, Paravati, is known as Panjin Melladi Ammai. The historical name of the place is Keeralathur. This is also famous for pongu sannieswar temple.

History:
Agni was under the hold of ezharai sani when he had missed some of his energy due to the following factors. Agni took part in a yaga performed by Dakshan who was the father-in-law of Lord Shiva. The main objective of performing yaga by Dakshan was to offend Shiva. Agni had also been affected with dosha when the wax palace was burnt with the purpose of destroying the Pandavas. Fire (Agni) interceded with Lord Shiva at this place to return his energy. Lord Shiva gratified him here & therefore known as Agnesswarar. There is a tale behind how this temple is so essential for Saneeswaran praise. Saneeswaran is just a planet that has effects on the individual according to his karmas (deeds). However, individuals misinterpreted and terrifying the very discussion of the name. Ezharai Sani or the 7.50 % period interval when the planet molds its malefic impact on the native of the horoscope is a terrifying periods. In the same way Ashatama Sani is feared. Saneeswaran did not like this and he appealed to the Lord that he should not be blamed accountably or attributed for doing his allocated process. Master Shiva was satisfied with Saneeswaran and conferred him the title Saneeswaran here. No other planet has the tag Easwaran connected. He instructed Saneeswaran to remain at this temple as Pongu Sani and bless the enthusiasts.
