Lord Birupakshya Temple, CHAKAPAD

Lord Shiva is worshipped here in the name of Sri Birupakhya. It is a unique temple where the Shiva linga is leaned towards South and the trees in the sorrounding too are leaned towards South. It took us one hour to cover around 28 km from Galleri to Chakapada and reached at 7pm. The priest was helpful and did our puja . He told us the legend of Ravana, who was carrying the Shiva linga and dropped here and worshipped here. As there was no lodgings available, we covered another 18 km to reach Tikkaballi and on the highway moved towards Phulbani, where we stayed at hotel Crown.

One of the best worship place of Lord Siva..

Ruler Shiva is adored here for the sake of Sri Birupakhya. It is a special sanctuary where the Shiva linga is inclined towards South and the trees in the sorrounding also are inclined towards South. It took us one hour to cover around 28 km from Galleri to Chakapada and came to at 7pm. The cleric was useful and did our puja . He let us know the legend of Ravana, who was conveying the Shiva linga and dropped here and revered here. As there was no lodgings accessible, we covered one more 18 km to arrive at Tikkaballi and on the main road moved towards Phulbani, where we remained at inn Crown.

Nice place but not for tourists....

Chakapad is located 55 km from Phulbani and is one of the religious places of Kandhamal. Shaivism is the presiding religion of this place. Lord Shiva is worshipped as Lord Birupakshya. The temple built on the banks of an ancient and sacred river Bhutaganga. This place is visited by thousand of devotees all year round...🙏🙏🙏

One striking feature of the temple is that each and every tree as well as the Shiva Linga inside the temple leans towards the south.The Temple of Lord Shiva( Birupakshya Temple) with its southward leaning raises the charm of this place. MAHASHIVARATRI is the famous festival of Chakapad. Two other temples of Anandeswara and Jageswara are also revered with huge devotion...😊😊😊

Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati (1926–23 August, 2008) and four of his disciples were murdered owing to communal tensions between the Hindus and the Christians (many of whom were proselytised from their original religion of Hinduism) on 23 August , 2008. His Ashram is adjacent to the temple. Saraswati was a Hindu monk and a Vishva Hindu Parishad leader. Seven tribal people of Christian religion and one Maoist leader were convicted in the case. There are allegations and counter allegations in this case and the whole event in spite of many probes is still stranded in mystery...😊🙏🤗

Enjoyed truly picturesque view points while traveling to the century old Shiva Temple. A cultural heritage and peaceful experience with divinity on the auspicious Mahashivratri.
