This is a beautiful twin temple in Jagati, near Boudh – another famous heritage center of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain temples from the 5th to 10th centuries.

One of the twin temple is Charisambhu dedicated to Shiva, the other Nilamadhab dedicated to Vishnu. The Charisambhu temple gets its name from "char" (four) and "sambhu" (Shiva), as the Odiya literature and inscriptions found here suggest there once were four Shiva temples along with a complex of several Vishnu and Devi-Shakti temples. Of these, the twin temples have survived in their majestic form.

The two temples are from the 8th-century. They are large, of equal size and share the same elegantly molded platform. The temple has a lot of intricate Hindu artwork, including some of the finest examples of carved Naga pillars in Odisha and eastern region of India. The temple follows a square architecture plan, of rekha deul form. As a large Indian temple complex, it celebrates all three major traditions of Hinduism. The artwork includes Surya and other Vedic deities.

This is one of those beautiful temples in Odisha that are worth a dedicated day trip. The rural scenery along the way is charming too.

Excellent temple. Needs peripheral development. Road connectivity should be developed. Government agency as well as PRI members to take care.
