The 9th century temple is one of the three 64 Yogini temples in India, the other two are at Ranipur Jharial of Odisha and Jabalpur in MP. The idols were desecrated by islamic invaders like Kalapahada and others. The premises is now being well maintained.

Beautiful temple but lies in a dilapidated state. Most of the statues are broken. The temple still looks beautiful. The surrounding area is clean and well maintained.

The Chausath Yogini Temple (Yogini Temple) of Hirapur also called Mahamaya Temple, is 20 km outside Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha state of Eastern India. It is devoted to the worship of the yoginis, auspicious goddess-like figures.

Hirapur's yogini temple is a tantric shrine, with hypaethral (roofless) architecture as tantric prayer rituals involve worshipping the bhumandala (environment consisting all the 5 elements of nature - fire, water, earth, air and ether), and the yoginis believed to be capable of flight.

The yogini idols represent female figures standing on an animal, a demon or a human head depicting the victory of Shakti (Feminine power). The idols express everything from rage, sadness, pleasure, joy, desire and happiness. The number 64 finds its reference in Hindu mythology in forms such as Kālá for time, Kalā for performing arts etc.

Such temples dedicated to yoginis, although rare, are also seen at Ranipur-Jharial site of the Balangir district in Odisha and seven other places in India.

This is a serene place, ideal for meditation and exclusivity. It's more than 1000years old , clean and almost well kept. It's a place to do saadhna/havan as per ancient tantric practices. Outside the temple premises , a lot of men can be witnessed in the lawns, sitting and chatting loudly. You can easily book a cab from Bhubaneswar but PLEASE DO NOT LET IT GO AS THERE IS NO WAY TO BOOK ANY VEHICLE BACK. If you're hard pressed on cash then you may need to walk 2-3 kms to the local market to get the local bus or an auto available on sharing. Do not hire an independent auto as they charge twice the ideally chargeable amount.

It is a very small and peaceful place. You will surely enjoy the scenary of place. It is a 9th century ancient temple. Usually this place used for ancient tantra sadhana. It is situated in a rural area so you can feel that vibe. Architecture of this place not that up to mark as shown in google image.

This temple is a very ancient one. The main deity of this temple is Goddess Mahamaya. There is also a temple of Lord Shiva inside. It's a very serene place. The temple is a very beautiful one. There are priests available to perform Pooja. There is also a shop available just outside the temple premises for buying the Pooja items. One can also find a beautiful pond nearby.

The place is on the way from Puri to Bhubaneswar. The place is close to Pipli. The village name is Hirapur n road signs showing Chausathi temple lead you to the place without any difficulty. The place is a protected monument n is beautifully well kept by the Government. The temple is built in circular fashion housing 64 Yoginis in their different avatars. Each having a unique hairstyle n riding on its own vahan (vehicle). U will see female version of Ganpati n Nrusinh as well. The pandas will give good background of the temples n it's origin. Most of these idols are damaged by Mughals but still are able to convey the everlasting hindu philosophy n cultural heritage. The lawns surrounding the temple is beautifully maintained n looks very serene. There is a modest government guest house next to the temple where I assume rooms are made available. A spiritual person will find the place very close to heart but those who are not should enjoy it as one more heritage monument with touch of our great hindu culture .....
