This is a landmark place in Parbhani City. You'll find no rikshaw or public transport driver who doesn't know the place. Apart from being a spot of fame or landmark, it has a history too, attached with it's name. Mahadeva, the God of the gods, Shiva, is the deity, whom this place attributes to. It's a temple of Shiva Bhagwan. Once, there was a time when this place was a way out from the main Parbhani City, in the open fields of agriculture. That time, a Linga idol of Bhagwan Shiva was established on a simple and small cement concrete square block. It was then worshipped by local farmers and the whole thing was under the open blue sky. The word "Ughada" (meaning open) in the name of the place describes this. This is a Marathi word which means the open or the naked one. Whatever the structure was there, it was surrounded with lush greenery. Right in 1988 there were three to four huge, very very elderly, magnificent, giant mango trees in front of the place (I'm calling it by "place" because you couldn't call it a structured temple yet!). The trees where so giant and huge that they left a clear imprint in my memory. I can still remember them very vividly. Each tree at its bottom had a huge network of supraterrestrial roots, structured around the huge trunk. The diameter of this Supra terrestrial root system for each tree must be around 40 feet across. I am quite lucky to witness the magnificent presence of those ancient trees. In those days we own a plot to build a home nearby and I would use to pass by the trees whenever I had to visit our home still under construction. The space nearby was utter wilderness. There were no huge buildings or dence human habitations nearby. The Lord Mahadeva was, nevertheless, revered by farmers and inhabitants nearby. Much later, after 10 to 15 years, a temple like structure was built at the place. Though it was built and the Linga idol was not anymore openly placed, the place nevertheless continued to be called as the Ughada Mahadev. Later the Linga was consecrated with religious rituals and was renamed as Someshwar Mahadeva. But still the old name is attached to the place inseparably.
These days the temple is well built with huge banyan tree by it's side and is the most visited place in the locality. a place is about three and half kilometres from the railway station of Parbhani. You can get here by paying only 10 rupees per head by Riksha which is available at the railway station. Do come and visit the place to get blessings of Lord Shiva! Har har mahadev!

Famous pick and drop point for localities. Temple though, now covered with roof...still known as Ughda( undressed) Mahadev... Surrounding is dirty.
