Alappuzha old Thirumala temple of Goud Daraswat Brahmin community is located in Mullakkal town. A 16th century temple of Sree Venkatachalapati swami is one of the oldest and renowned temples of the GSB community. The annual festival which lasts for eight days falls in the month of January _February . A peculiarity of this temple is the airawatam or the white wooden elephant on which the seeveli of the Lord is conducted during the aaratt maholsav or the eight day festival, instead of a real elephant! Another attraction is the ratha or chariot pooja on the seventh day of the festival on which the ratha is decorated beautifully for the Lord's procession and is pulled by the devotees amidst the sacred mantra enchanting ' Govinda Govinda'.!! Another important event is the nalpathonnu pooja of Yakshiayi or Vanadurga devi here. For any ardent devotee the Sree Venkatachalapathy temple at old Thirumala is a sure visit.
