A serene place & great locale for a quick morning trek. The local folklore of the place says that the entire village was traumatize by bootha (ghosts eesentially) and the Hoysala's constructed this temple for protection of the villagers, first built at base of the summit. But, this temple got destroyed and the new stone temple was erected on the summit with goddess Pravathamma.
Another famous folklore is that that of the tiger and the cow....A cow was hunted by a tiger and when caught the cow pleaded that she goes and feed her hungry calf, to which, the tiger skeptically lets the cow go. But, low behold the cow actually returns after feeding her calf ready to be killed. Seeing this the tiger is suprised at the cows honestly and for such a gesture said it rather starve than eat and lets the cow go. There is infact a famous poem based on this story.
Please do note the local customs say you ought to take a bath if you want to enter the temple. Also, there is a natural pond near the base you have to pour a bit of water on your head thrice. Interestingly, if you want a good husband, pile up the rocks found there its really lucky, rather, so is the local custom! The scenery from here is just outstanding!

Beautiful trekking , the trekking is 30-45minutes from car parking area, you will fall in love with nature at the hill top,, no shops around, ensure you carry safety, water and related items as required.the hill top temple has Lord Shiva in grinate stone, and beautiful deity Amman Shri Parvati Amman. Initially you may feel temple access is not there or difficult, but as you progress you ascend, it easily accessible.
